Students honored by board
The Wayne Highlands School Board honored a trio of seniors during their December meeting.
Emma Dunsinger, daughter of Jonathan and Patricia Dunsinger of Honesdale, is in the top five percent of her class.
She has participated in the American Mathematics Contest, where she was the top scorer for Honesdale High School (HHS) in both 9th and 10th grades.
Emma also participated in the American Chemical Society Challenge Exam, is a member of the honor roll and the National Honor Society (NHS).
She is a member of the Future Business Leaders of American (FBLA), where she paced eighth in the state for the competitive event. Emma qualified for the National FBLA Competition.
She is a second degree black belt in Taekwondo, and is a five-year member of the Taekwondo Demonstration Team. Emma plans to earn a four-year degree in computer science and engineering.
Stephanie Matlaga is the daughter of Roman and DianeMatlagaofHonesdale. Also in the top five percent of her class, she is a regional and state medal winner in the Science Olympiad.
Stephanie has participated in the American Chemical Society Exam, the American Mathematics Contest and is a member of the Interact Club and honor roll. She is the secretary of the National Honor Society and is a student council member-at-large.
Her extra curricular activities include performing in the HHS musical pit band, along with district, region and county bands. She also participated in junior varsity softball and is an assistant CCD teacher at St. James Church.
Stephanie plans to attend either Villanova University, Bucknell University or Gettysburg University as a biochemistry major on her way to becoming a pediatrician.
Audrey Zielinski is the daughter of George and Peggy Zielinski of Honesdale. She is the captain of the varsity boys basketball cheerleading squad and is in the top five percent of her class.
Audrey is also a student council member at large and homeroom representative. She is a member of the Interact Club, is on the honor roll and is the Blood Drive Committee Chairperson for the NHS.
Audrey has also participated in the American Mathematics Contest. She plans to attend a fouryear university, and is undecided on a major.
