Welcome 2018-2019 School Year

Dear Wayne Highlands Middle School Community,

As we embark on the 2018-2019 school year at Wayne Highlands Middle School, I want to take a moment to welcome everyone back for what will be an exciting and successful year at Wayne Highlands and give you updates on some changes that occurred over the summer.

At Wayne Highlands Middle School, we are fortunate to have a top-notch faculty. This year there are numerous faculty members who I am happy to introduce and welcome these outstanding new faculty members:

Marissa Fasshauer – Family & Consumer Science Teacher

Caroline Marino – 7th Grade Mathematics Long-Term Substitute

Amy Kuta – Special Education Partial Program Substitute

Each of these new faculty members and our entire staff is devoted to providing our students with a first-class educational experience.Through the hard work and collaboration of our dedicated faculty and staff, the students at Wayne Highlands Middle School will continue to be provided culturally relevant and rigorous instruction each and every day.

We are also looking forward to continue expanding opportunities for students outside of the classroom at Wayne Highlands Middle School.Beyond our usual highly successful extra-curricular activities, our students will have expanded access to the widely utilized Pop-Up Club.Pop-Up Club is a rare after-school student club, that is a result of the joint efforts of the Cooperage and our school district, which enables students to participate in hands-on STEAM learning activities tied directly to their interests. Club members will meet on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday of each week, and every month the club will rotate the focus/topics of the club so students can pick and choose topics they would like to participate.Regardless of a students’ interest/hobbies, the Pop-Up Club will have something they can enjoy with peers. The variety that this club offers is what makes it unique and special. We will be providing students with more detailed information regarding the club during the first week of the school and parents during new student orientation and curriculum night. Please encourage your son/daughter to explore this awesome opportunity.

I also encourage each of you to visit our website (http://www.whsdk12.com) often to learn more about the great opportunities offered at the Wayne Highlands Middle School and our students’ amazing achievements. Announcements, updates, calendars, and all other pertinent information to our school district can be found on our website. I also encourage everyone to follow our twitter account (@whmsschoolpa), Facebook page (Wayne Highlands Middle School), and our Remind Alert system, all of which will be used to send out updates and quick announcements as we go through the school year. Additionally, this year we will continue utilizing e-mail blasts to communicate to parents/guardians.These communications will have announcements, date reminders, various student accomplishments and other pertinent parent information throughout the year.Any parents/guardians could sign up for this by clicking here and entering your email address, or just contact the main office for your email to be added to the list.

Furthermore, we hope all 6th grade/new students and their parents/guardians will join us on August 23rd at 1:00pm for our 6th grade/new student orientation and ice cream social.Students and parents interested in attending should contact the main office to sign up. We are also hoping to see all of our parents/guardians on September 12th from 5:30pm-8:00pm for our Curriculum Night.

Students, I would like to wish you the best of luck this upcoming school year as you continue to make your mark on the Wayne Highlands community. I am confident this school year will be full of academic accomplishments and memorable relationships with your peers and teachers.

On behalf of our entire faculty and staff, I thank you for visiting our website and we encourage you to return throughout the school year to learn more about our remarkable school.
